Learning Resources

It can be useful to consider why many of us fear public speaking so much. The very thought of it can evoke anxiety and terror into people. The response is an ancient one which unless tamed can undermine our ability to flourish in the world of communication.

Speaking can be a very personal thing and shows us at our best (or our worst). Like it or not, people can judge us on first perceptions or at least on our first verbal delivery. This is our opportunity to express an opinion. Yours is worthwhile too so make it count. For some, this can be a very difficult but equally rewarding experience. After all, the spoken word is the most important means of communication - or is it ?

It is widely recognised that a very significant element of communication belongs in the land of non-verbal. So although we are called a Speakers Club, we are very keen to re-enforce the idea that we are about communicating. It's key that we focus our delivery to our objective and our target audience.

It's important to remember to put pauses into our speaking. Allow the audience time to absorb and consider what you've told them. Don't overwhelm them. Use changes of vocal tone, it adds colour and interest to what your are saying.

For other useful references, please see the links section.

Don't suffer in silence. The really essential element of Speakers Club is that you get to practice in a really supportive, risk-free environment where you will receive plenty of constructive feedback and evaluation to allow you to grow in confidence and move on.

The Club

Its really about making a start and doing it at your own pace. As a club we constantly look for new ways to encourage new members into the learning process and to stretch some of he more experience members. Everyone has something to offer and your contribution will be valued.

We try new ideas to break the ice and keep up with today's styles of communication.
